Muntadhar al-Zaidi is an Iraqi broadcast journalist who works for Egyptian-based Al-Baghdadia TV. Twice arrested by the U.S. armed forces in Iraq, he has also been kidnapped by unknown assailants in Baghdad. On December 14, 2008, al-Zaidi threw his shoes at then-U.S. president George W. Bush during the latter's Baghdad press conference. Tried before the Central Criminal Court of Iraq, he was sentenced to three years in prison, a sentence that was eventually reduced to one year. On September 15, 2009, after serving nine months, he was released.
